Apple Crumble with Dulce de leche and Bacon

Ingredients

Apple topping

  • 8 cups cored, peeled and quartered apples
  • 2 tbsp. flour
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. maple syrup
  • Juice of ½ a lemon
  • ¼ tsp. ground cinnamon

Crunchy topping

  • 1 cup quick-cook oatmeal
  • 1 cup large oatmeal flakes
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • Dulce de leche and bacon toppings
  • ¼ cup store-bought dulce de leche
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a bowl, combine the apple topping ingredients.
  3. Spread in an 8-inch square pan, not buttered. You can also separate the apple mixture into individual serving dishes.  
  4. In a bowl, combine the crunchy topping ingredients.
  5. Mix until the texture is lumpy.
  6. Sprinkle topping over apple mixture.
  7. Bake about 1 hour or until apples are tender and topping is crispy and golden brown.  
  8. Reheat dulce de leche about 10 seconds in the microwave.
  9. Top the crumble with the caramel and crumbled bacon.
