Ingredients

  • 2 cups amber maple syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tbsp. cold butter, cubed
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 slices cooked bacon, crumbled

Preparation

  1. Bring syrup and water to a boil in a large pot.
  2. In a medium sized bowl, combine dry ingredients.
  3. Add the butter cubes and bacon crumbs to the flour mixture.
  4. Add the milk and mix with a fork.  
  5. Make dough balls using a spoon and lower into the syrup. Do not cook too many at a time so the grands-pères can rise properly and cook through.
  6. Turn heat to low, cover and cook about 15 to 20 minutes.
