Hog farm worker
The farm worker’s main responsibility is to produce good-quality piglets and hogs, consistent with the company’s standards, while overseeing the well-being of the animals.
Details about work location:
The worker will need to travel to different farms in the region: St-Paul, Ange-Gardien, Notre-Dame, Ste-Sabine, St-Domininique, Ste-Brigide, Farnham and others.
We are looking for people who are:
- Passionate about animals
- Versatile, manual, responsible, observant, self-reliant and resourceful
- Able to do physically demanding work
- Good at planning their tasks and time
- Able to travel to different facilities throughout the region
- Available to work on two weekends per months
Key responsibilities:
- Check animals, hog barns and production material on a daily basis to ensure proper operation of all farm facilities
- Feed and water the animals
- Keep them healthy and disease-free, and give appropriate medication when needed
- Clean production areas and common spaces
- Observe, analyze, recognize and promptly report anything wrong
- Order feed
- Write up reports
- Do minor maintenance
- Comply with animal program standards
MATERNITY:
Schedule: 5 days a week, including 2 weekends/month. 42.5 hours/week.
Salary: $18/hr upon hiring. Then you can obtain a farm manager position and salary adjustment, and you will be eligible for the production bonus.
Sow barn workers | Other responsibilities:
- Detect when sows are in season; plan mating
- Inseminate sows
- Check for return to heat cycle and check if pregnant
Birthing workers | Other responsibilities:
- Prepare sow barns and attend sows during birthing
- Check new litters and oversee care of newborns
- Provide preventive care to animals (neuter, vaccinate, tattoo and disinfect)
FATTENING:
Schedule: 5 days a week. 42.5 hours/week. Work vehicle provided. Must be available to work on weekends.
Salary: $16.72/hr upon hiring and $17.46/hr after training is complete. Then you can obtain a farm manager position and salary adjustment, and you will be eligible for the production bonus.
Fattening workers | Other responsibilities:
- Keep clean and in good condition the building interiors/exteriors
- Receive piglets and count them with the transporters
- Help load animals
